As with any recreational
activity, off-roading involves a steep learning curve. Luckily, the 2016 Jeep
Cherokee has a unique system called Selec-Terrain® that allows drivers to
easily control the appropriate amount of traction based on five pre-defined terrain
types. These include:
Snow
Driving in snow can be a tricky
proposition since you have to deal with a very slippery and wet surface. The
Selec-Terrain® system offers a snow setting that focuses torque on the front
wheels to make sure that your truck keeps moving forward.
Rock
Off-road terrains are anything
but smooth, and often times your vehicle will need to drive over rocks and
small boulders to reach your destination. The rock setting let’s you raise
ground clearance by increasing air suspension, which prevents your truck’s
undercarriage from scraping these obstacles.
Sand and Mud
Similar to the snow setting, sand
and mud mode increases the torque in the front wheels so that your truck can
plow through rivers and sand dunes with no glitches.
Sport
In this mode, more torque is
given to the rear wheels to give it more power. If you need to power through
terrain, activate this setting.
Auto
The default setting, wherein 55%
of the torque is allocated to the rear wheels and the remaining 45% to the
front. This mode will prove useful in most off-road driving scenarios.
